First Communion – Photographer in action!
First Communion is a very special time for the children. They are getting ready for months in advance to be prepared for the day when it finally comes. Prayer service, poems, songs, little presentation of gifts, flowers, props .. and their spirit, of course;).
First Communion? I love the atmosphere in the cathedral on the day. This time it’s St. Macartan’s Cathedral. I would always arrive early before everone else to capture the place before it is packed with people coming to the gathering. The lights are not switchen on yet. Dim light adds on to the ambience of the whole place. Streams of light flying through the stainglass, painting the altar, makes the place truly stunning. It’s beautiful, I have to say! Then Families are starting to arrive, and cathedral fills in with people. Little noise can be heard Poeple exchanging greeting. Everybody looking forward to the service.
When it comes to taking pictures of the day, I would love to capture all these little moments that children share with the family. It’s called documentary photography, and family is not to worry about posing;) ( just yet!). Also then any other props that had been put into place to enhance the atmosphere of the day. At the end of the ceremony, Family portraits are taken (ones for the frames and to be sent to relatives), and some group shots, weather permitting. Now the girls taking the First Communion on that day were quite lucky with the weather, so we got to go ousite;). All in all, the variety of images were presented to the Family, to cherish forever. Fun 🙂
