“Barbara, I would like you to take photographs of my baby at birth”
“No way! Are you pregnant?”
“Not yet…”
This is pretty much the initial conversation I had about photographing the very first moment of a human being life at their birth. Pretty scary on one hand and on the other hand overwhelming and mind blowing experience and so genuinely beautiful.
It had gotten very exciting when I found out that my model is finally on the way. It generally takes 9 months for this to happen so I put thoughts about going to hospital aside. And then I got this call to learn the labour would take place the very next day. There should be no problem but several things where meant to pop up that day.
- The one and only car in the house went for NCT
- Call was received from school that small accident had happened meantime and I might be required to come and pick up injured one earlier than usual and school pick up time became more complicated all together for other siblings
- The client was coming to view and collect the DVD with images
Once all this got out the way I drove to Cavan to see my little newborn hoping that it was not born quite yet ……
The adrenaline was rushing trough my blood yet I was so calm. In my head I was picturing the scene I was about to witness.
Well I was a little late but still managed to capture a few very first moments of the little girl (4,1 kg that little) and her parents.
